Harrisons Solicitors commenced trading under its current name on 1 July 2002. The firm originates from the Margate Office of Gail McDougall & Associates which commenced trading in Margate in 1984. Julian Harrison, the current principal, joined that firm as an employee in 1993. In 1995, Julian and Greg Lane, the principal of Gill & Lane of Sandgate, acquired the practice of Gail McDougall & Associates and they commenced trading in partnership under the name Gill & Lane at both Margate and Sandgate. In 1997 they acquired the Margate practice of B J Holloway & Co from Barry Holloway. At the same time, the Margate office of the firm moved from 20 Baynes Street, Margate to the current premises at 243 Oxley Avenue, Margate.

In 2002, the Margate and Sandgate offices of Gill & Lane separated and Julian Harrison commenced trading solely at Margate. At that time, the firm name was changed to Harrisons Solicitors and continues to trade under that name.

Whilst there have been some changes in the firm, the core staff have remained largely unchanged since 1995.
